Gave eggs from my farm to the Mt. Zion food pantry. I showed up early to bring them in and talk with the people waiting in line about the incredible complete protein called the egg! I was able to share with them the benefits of omega three in foods like my eggs. I taught them about the food I feed the chickens (flax seed).
Hunger Task Force again today. Making more boxes of nutritious foods for the elderly in our community. The first day we made 15 pallets of boxes in 3 hours. That is 600 boxes total. Today we made 16 pallets which is 640 boxes. That is 1240 elderly citizens that will have a little bit more to eat this month. It includes 4 cans of lite fruit, 4 cans of low sodium vegetables, 2 boxes of unsweetened cereal, 2 bottles of juice, 2 boxes of noodles, and a can of chili.
Excellent facility! Orientation day at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion Illinois. CTCA is a state of the art unique hospital. Has more of a hotel feel rather that of a hospital.
Today I worked with new staff members and they were really great with the kids. I had two children that had tube feedings and who were also recovering from tracheostomies. It was interesting learning how to help administer tube feedings. I met another little boy who had Autism and he was a very cute lovable kid. :)
Going into this I didn't realize how many elderly citizens in my community do not have enough money for food or know how to get to the resources to get the food they need. We were putting together boxes of food that are given free to anyone over 60 years old and with a monthly income of $1249 or less. The people at the food bank also help to get them information on how to apply for government assistance.
I went to Every Child's Place. The kids are all so welcoming and polite. Enjoyed the nice weather outside and then went over days of the week, numbers, and ABC sign language. I'll definitely be back.
I collected eggs and drove them to mt zion food pantry. I use the opportunity at my small farm to bring healthy natural foods to lower income people. While delivering the eggs I spend time with the people waiting outside in line before the food pantry opens to talk with them about health food choices. I like being able to do this as often as possible, because the people in line are always different and it gives me the opportunity to give something back to the community.
I went to Every Child's Place. The kids are adorable and so sweet! I didn't really know what to do at first, but the teacher was very kind and made me feel more at ease. Definitely look forward to going back.
It was really a great time working with the kids today! I had a child that had autism and I was able to learn a little more about the condition and how to approach the child and interact with them. There was one child that the teacher was having difficulty with trying to get them to lay down for the afternoon nap. I was told from their teacher that this child has always had a problem with going down for a nap with the other kids. I noticed the teacher struggling for a while to get the child to sleep so I went to help her out. I knew that with a new person trying to get the child to go down for a nap, it may be more successful. I literally laid down nest to with the child and stroked their hair in a gentle mommy-child like manner. I was able to calm the child down and within minutes, I had them to sleep. I felt VERY good about being able to get the child to sleep and also being able to relieve the stress from the teacher.
Today I was trained and will be certified to give vision screenings for children. This training and certification is a good opportunity for me to learn more about children with vision problems and to help prevent further complications. I am looking forward to going to my first vision screening as a certified vision screener.
I went to Burlington to get certified for the Wisconsin Blindness prevention. It was very educational and I got to perform the tests. Hopefully soon I will be able to put this skill to use.
I went to the Prevent Blindness training in Burlington. The training was very educational and let us practice each vision test. I cannot wait to actually go to a school and give it a go!
I am really looking forward to working with the kids. I was interested in taking care of the special needs children as well and I am happy to hear that I will on the days that I will be volunteering. Every Child's Place is a very clean and a well run business.
