I provided a "friendly visitor" volunteer visit to the same patient I was with on 12/01/2016. He and I talked about alot of different things, told jokes, and he also napped a short time while his fiance was out again running errands.
I, along with the volunteer coordinator from Heartland Hospice, Alisia went to a patient's home that i will spend 2 hours each Thursday with as a volunteer. We went over volunteer guidelines pertaining to the requests of the patient and family that would be acceptable as well as acceptable tasks I am allowed to do. Alisia was present for a total of 30 minutes and the other hour and a half I was there as a presence for the patient while his fiance went out to finish errands.
Today I volunteered with Heartland Hospice and we went to HCR Manorcare Nursing Home. I helped to decorate a Christmas tree along with 3 other volunteers and interacted with members who live there. Afterwards, I helped in the office to assemble paperwork needed for a folder called a death packet, which is a folder containing paperwork the nurse case manager must fill out in the event of a patient on hospice service passing away.
I attended an orientation at Heartland Home Care and Hospice Kenosha business office for volunteers led by Liz Analla, the volunteer coordinator. I learned the role a volunteer plays when volunteering for hospice. There are volunteers used to provide companionship to a client, provide a relief period for the main caregivers, or vigil volunteers who provide a presence to people who are actively dying.
